The Williamson County Parks and Recreation’s Senior division experiences the rich history and holiday opulence of a stunning antebellum home on Thursday, December 6th when the Belmont Mansion opens its grand doors and prepares a luncheon feast for our senior travelers ages 55 and older. Registered participants meet for the Belmont Mansion tour at the Franklin Recreation Complex where they board a comfortable motor coach for transport to the former home of Joseph and Adelicia Acklen. Known as the summer dwelling (and escape) from their sweltering 8,400 acre Louisiana cotton plantation, the Acklen’s began constructing their 36-room, 19,000 square foot, Tennessee Italianate beauty in 1849. Filling it with luxurious furnishings, art, sculpture; and accompanied by conservatories, lavish gardens, an aviary, lake and zoo; the Belmont Mansion soon became known as one of the most elaborate homes in the South. Touring the house and grounds in December promises to deliver stunning views of decadent holiday décor, thrilling historic facts—not to mention good food! The group will enjoy a catered lunch inside the mansion to conclude the day. Don’t miss a chance to experience the best of Nashville history.
Cost is $29.00 per person and is all inclusive. Check-in time begins at 9:00 a.m. with an estimated return time of 1:15 p.m. Transportation is provided by motor coach and will leave from the Franklin Recreation Complex located at 1120 Hillsboro Rd., Franklin.
