Area youth to perform ‘Children of the Civil War’ production at Spring Hill Library

Bookend Productions will present its original production of “A Glooming Peace: Children of the Civil War” at the Spring Hill Library on Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Originally commissioned by Rippavilla Plantation, and debuting during the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Spring Hill, this reprise unveils a story of the war from a viewpoint not often seen: the children’s. Talented local youth, ages 7 through 17, portray what it was like to live as teens and children — rich and poor, town and country, slave and free — in Spring Hill during the Civil War.

Directed and written by Bettyann Henderson, owner of Bookend Productions and author of “Essential Theater: A Page-to-Stage K–12 Guide for Schools and Home schools” the play was fine-tuned in collaboration with her creative young performers.

“I shaped the play to match the kids I was working with,” Henderson said.
