The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide variety of ongoing programs for adults and teens at the Franklin Recreation Complex, located at 1120 Hillsboro Road. WCPRD is a public organization, here to benefit the community. No membership is required. Anyone can register for and participate in our classes – even if you don’t have a facility pass. BELLY DANCE
Belly dance is a beautiful and exotic art! On Mondays, January 4-25 (skip 1/18) from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., instructor Patty Clark will introduce adult participants to the basics of belly dance including stretches, dancing techniques and a choreographed routine. Have fun while toning hips, thighs and abs. Be prepared to sweat during this high-intensity class! Cost is $33 for three weeks. To register, call the Franklin Recreation Complex, 790-5719, ext. 10.
GUITAR LESSONS
Guitar lessons for beginners to advanced musicians ages 13 to 17 are offered at an affordable price! Instructor Tony Seago proves that anyone can learn to play! Classroom guitars will be available or you may bring your guitar and tuner to class. Classes are held Mondays, January 4-February 1 (skip 1/18) from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost for the one hour, four-week series is $40; plus a $40 supply fee payable to the instructor. WESTERN LINE DANCING
Whether you can “boot scoot” with the best of them or you want to test your two left feet out on the dance floor for the first time, you’ll love participating in this western line dance class! Instructor Bubba McMillen will show you a great time while you enjoy the benefits of a cardio workout. Come learn the latest and hottest new line dances! Classes are held on Tuesdays, January 5-26 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Cost for the four-week session is $30 per person and $55 per couple (couples must be family members). To register, call the Franklin Recreation Complex, 790-5719, ext. 10.
ROCK, RHYTHM & ROLL-DRUM LESSONS FOR TEENS & ADULTS
A complete drum program for beginner to advanced drummers! Students will learn how to read and write drum music, drum theory, all the rudiments and the roles drummers play while working with a band. (This class is also an excellent developmental opportunity for those students already involved in band at their school). Instructor Frank Bayon teaches four-week sessions on Wednesdays, January 6-27. Thirty-minute classes are available continuously from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The cost is $60 per person for the four-week course, with a $20 supply fee payable to the instructor for sticks and a practice pad. Call Franklin Recreation Complex, 790-5719, ext. 10 to reserve a time slot.
SPANISH FOR ADULTS
Adults can learn the basics of conversational Spanish in this four-week course. Vocabulary, grammar and culture will be integrated into each class. Spanish for adults meets Wednesdays, January 6-27 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The four-week course is $40, and pre-registration is required. Call the Franklin Recreation Complex at 790-5719, ext. 10.
BALLROOM DANCE
Learn Latin, Ballroom and Swing dance, even if you have two left feet. This class will teach the basics of four dances. Partner ideal but not necessary to attend. PIANO
Adults can learn to play the piano with private lessons at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Classes are set up as 4-week sessions for beginners to advanced players. Music theory is also included in the lessons. Call in advance to select a 30-minute time slot. CONTINUING SCREENWRITING
Continue your development of screenwriting skills in this five-week class taught by Sean Kennelly of Screenwriting magazine. Learn about character and scene development. Advanced Screenwriting meets on Mondays, January 11-March 1 (skip 1/18 and 2/15), from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The course is $60, plus a $12 supply fee paid to the instructor for reading assignments. RETIREMENT SUMMIT: TOWN HALL MEETING
Learn tools and strategies for managing your retirement portfolio in this town-hall style meeting hosted by Jonathan Pagano and Michael King. Learn how to evaluate your nest egg and how to protect it. Hear strategies for investing during all types of financial market conditions. The Retirement Summit is Tuesday, January 12, 7 p.m. – 8:15 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex. GERMAN FOR BEGINNERS
Whether you are planning a trip to Germany or would like to converse with German-speaking relatives, this class will enable students to hold a simple conversation in German and learn about German customs and culture. German for Beginners will meet Tuesdays, January 12-February 16, The six-week course will be offered from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.. The course fee is $60. SCREENWRITING
Learn the art of screenwriting in this six-week class taught by Sean Kennelly of Screenwriting magazine. Course covers 3-act structure, character creation, dialogue, outlining, format and marketing tips. A minimum of 10 hours outside of class are suggested for course writing assignments. Screenwriting meets on Wednesdays, January 13-February 17, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The course is $60, plus a $12 supply fee paid to the instructor for reading assignments. SCALEDOWN
Learn how to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle in this free class. Scaledown is an eight-week health education and weight loss support program. Learn about portion sizes, my pyramid, physical activity and more. Scaledown is a free program that meets on Saturdays, January 16-March 13 from 1:15  p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road.
