Black Tie Affair shares history and educates community
The African American Heritage Society’s 15th Annual Black Tie Affair Friday at the Embassy Suites was an opportunity to celebrate and share the history of Williamson County’s African American community.
“This is not just a Black activity; it’s a Franklin activity,” said Mary Mills, a founder of the AAHS after a special welcome by three-time Grammy Award winner Keb’ Mo’ who sang “America the Beautiful.”
With this year’s theme – “Education – Our Key to the Future” – past and present African American educators, those involved in education and families who promoted education within their homes were recognized. Williamson County Schools Superintendent Mike Looney and Franklin Special School District Director of Schools David Snowden spoke at the event.
