Chili Cook-Off

The ninth annual Franklin Tomorrow Chili Cook-off is just around the corner on Oct. 29 and teams are not only checking their recipes, they are firing up their competitive spirits to claim the top awards in this community event.

The Cook-off will be held this year at the corner of Main Street and Fourth Avenue North. The 2011 Chili Cook-off is presented by Tennessee Commerce Bank and Bob Parks Realty, along with a host of other sponsors, including Taylor Made Smiles, Five Points Roofing, and Buerger Moseley & Carson PLC.

Teams in this year’s event include Boxwood Bistro, Bob Parks Realty, Franklin City Club, Cypress Grove Construction, Franklin Firefighters Association L3758, St. Philip Catholic Church, The Daily Dish, The Pink Gala and Merridee’s Breadbasket, the 2010 winner for “Best Chili” in the judges’ category.

The rivalry continues to simmer between the returning Franklin Firefighters Association L3758 and the Franklin City Club, formerly the Franklin Men’s Club. Billy Littleton and his team from the Franklin City Club hope to improve upon their 2010 third-place finish in the “People’s Choice” category and the Franklin Firefighters hope to return to their winning ways from previous competitions.

Hot dogs, chips and drinks are also available at the Chili Cook-off tent. Those tasting the chilis receive a 2-ounce serving of each chili and then vote for their favorite while a panel of judges also taste tests the recipes and decide on their favorite. Awards are also given for Best Booth Design and Team Spirit.

Tickets are just $5 per person. Proceeds from the event go to the programs and initiatives of Franklin Tomorrow, a non-profit community visioning organization that has been in existence since 2001.
