Benton Town
The Leiper’s Fork Community Association & Yeoman’s in the Fork, Rare Book and Document Gallery located historic Leiper’s Fork, TN will be hosting “Benton Town 1812 Historical Market Fair & Leip into History” on Saturday, October 1st, 2011 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday, October 2nd, 2011 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Benton Town, now called Leiper’s Fork, is the last historic village on the Tennessee portion of the Natchez Trace.
Events on both days will be held at The Lawnchair Theater. Throughout both days there will be 18th Century firearms, Quill/Pen Writing, Book Binding, and Quilting demonstrations, along with living History encampments, storytelling, and 18th & 19th Century Children’s Games such as “Rolling Hoops” and “LaGrace”.
At 12:30 pm, Saturday, on stage at The Lawnchair Theater will be an 18th Century Fashion Show.
There will be market vendors selling various items including Leather Craftsman with a wide selection of leather items and accoutrements, Lace makers, muzzle loaders, and various 18th Century knick knacks.
Starting at 1:30 pm on Saturday at Yeoman’s in the Fork, Rare Book and Document Gallery, Brian Allison, Interim Curator at Travellers Rest Plantation will be giving a lecture on the lives and crimes of the outlaws of the Natchez Trace and Tennessee Frontier.
Then again at 3:00 pm on Saturday at Yeoman’s in the Fork, Rare Book and Document Gallery, Rick Warwick, author of numerous books on Williamson County History, and Historian at The Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County, will be giving a lecture on how life was in Williamson County during the years surrounding 1812 including the migration from the Eastern States, and the conditions and dangers people faced.
