FI: Tell us about yourself. What got you into music?
KB: I grew up in a musical family. My dad and his brothers all sing, play and write. I think my first pop single was the J. Geils Band’s “Centerfold”. My grandmother bought it for me when I was about 3 or 4. My first full-length was Thriller, which my other grandmother bought for me a few years later. So, music was encouraged for sure!
FI: Do you write your own songs? If so, what inspired your debut EP, California?
KB: Yes, I did write the four songs on California. They were inspired by The Beach Boys, Transcendental Meditation, nature…oh, and love.
FI: What do you like about “pop” music.
KB: The way it makes me feel.
FI: Where is your favorite place to perform in Nashville, so far and why?
KB: Edgehill Studios. I feel like I’m hanging out with the crowd when I play there.
FI: When you aren’t recording or performing, where can someone spot you on a Saturday afternoon?
KB: Wherever good coffee is sold. I like Frothy Monkey a lot.
FI: Are there other musicians in Nashville that you collaborate and perform together with? If so, who are they and what do you guys work on together?
KB: David Dewese has played with me on a few gigs and I’ve played and recorded with him some. I’ve done some recording with Roger Ferguson. Will Medders has played drums with me.
FI: Before a show, do you have any special rituals you have to do…ie down a Dr. Pepper, cluck like a chicken… anything?
KB: I oink like a pig, actually.
FI: What is your favorite song off California and why?
KB: Maybe “Birds Up In The Sky.” I’ve always liked the melody a lot.
