Re-introducing the Williamson County Parks and Recreation’s Hillsboro-Leiper’s Fork Community Center! Hosting a variety of new classes for participants of all ages, the center is fast becoming a hub for recreation, arts and leisure!
Erica Hardee teaches “TumbleWeeds”, a gymnastics program for Pre-K and Elementary-age kids. Classes are offered on Mondays from 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Cost is $52.00 per month with a sibling discount price of $38.00 per month for each additional child. Instructor Suzi Ambar-Worrell brings Yoga to the center on Fridays, January 4th through 25th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Teens and adults can enjoy muscle stretching, toning and strengthening for all sizes, shapes and level of fitness! Children create their own scripts, props and costumes in “Beginning Children’s Theatre”! Instructor Dianne Isaacs guides children ages 4 to 7 in the art of dramatic stage performance on Tuesdays, January 8th through February 12th or Wednesdays, January 9th through February 13th from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A cast party will conclude the program, including refreshments! Dancing with the stars! Explore the mystique of ballroom dancing in Annie Stokes-Tyshkevych’s “Beginning Ballroom & Latin Dancing” classes offered on Tuesdays, January 8th through 29th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Teens and adults learn the basics of lead and follow, dancing in a crowd and patterns from each of the major couple’s dances including Foxtrot, Waltz, Rumba, Hustle and Salsa. Cost is $40.00 per person for 4-weeks, or $60.00 per couple. Please wear casual or dressy loose-fitting clothes and soft-soled shoes. No gym clothes. Sydney Burris introduces kids ages 3 -7 to a science and sensory program called “Learning Unlimited” on Thursdays, January 10th through 31st from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The classes provide children with the opportunity to mix, concoct, predict and observe science while they engage in sensory exercises including music, rhymes and literature. Youths ages 9-12 can enjoy creating “matching snowflake hats” in their American Girl Sewing class on Friday, January 11th from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Instructor Suzanne Marley guides budding crafters through the basics of machine sewing as they make a warm fleece hat for themselves and their American Girl doll. Cost for the class is $25.00 with a $5.00 supply fee. Please be sure to bring your own sewing machine and basic sewing supplies like scissors, thread, measuring tape and pins. The fun and creative Noah’s Ark Workshop for kids ages 3-12 introduces “Stuff-n-Fluff Gingerbread Friends” on Saturday, January 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Participants choose a Gingerbread or Snowman friend, stuff it by hand, dress it and name it. National award winning artist Shelley Snow brings her watercolor classes to the center on Mondays, January 21st through February 25th from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Known for her personal instruction throughout the classes, Shelley invites beginner through advanced watercolor artists to work on the subject of their choice including still life, landscapes and portraits. Fundamental through advanced techniques will be covered with an emphasis on color, composition and color values. Cost for the 6-week class is $180.00. Make a fashion statement with Nancie Roark’s “Wire Working with Beads for Beginners” jewelry class offered on Tuesdays, January 29th and February 5th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. An experienced jewelry-making instructor and silversmith, Nancie guides adult participants in learning how to use specialty hand tools, wire, beads, glass and embellishments to make stunning one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces.
