Adoption Weekend helps more pets find loving homes by raising awareness of local adoption opportunities and encouraging prospective pet parents to visit participating shelters.
New Mars research found that while interest in adoption remains strong, many prospective pet parents are held back by uncertainty around a pet’s medical history, behavior or compatibility with their household. Through Mars Global Adoption Weekend, Mars and its shelter partners are working together to help more people adopt with confidence.
As part of the initiative, on Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3, Williamson County Animal Center (WCAC) will host adoption events and volunteer activities designed to connect adoptable pets with prospective pet parents and raise awareness around pet adoption.
Pictured: Meet Khaleesi, a 60-pound, 7-year-old Coonhound mix who is at the animal center through no fault of her own. This friendly girl is house and crate trained, walks nicely on leash, knows sit, paw and down, and has done wonderfully with kids, dogs and cats. She’s playful without being over-the-top and has not shown aggression.
Khaleesi is the kind of dog who already knows the ropes but still enjoys getting out, having fun and being part of the action. She’s spayed, up to date on her vaccines, and microchipped. If you’re looking for a loyal, well-rounded companion with a little spark in her step, come meet Khaleesi and the other adoptable pets at WCAC today!

To help remove barriers to adoption, Mars, its family of pet care brands and Adopt A Pet Shelter Plus will cover up to $100,000 in cat and dog adoption fees across participating U.S. shelters, including WCAC. In addition, PEDIGREE Foundation will provide up to $25,000 in dog adoption fee support across participating shelters and rescues. New pet parents will also receive adoption kits containing pet food and other pet essentials.
WCAC is open to the public Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.; Saturday 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.; and closed Sundays. Hours may vary due to holidays. The center is located at 1006 Grigsby Hayes Court in Franklin.
