Williamson County Animal Center Announces Schedule for Low and No Cost Vaccinations

New Thursday opportunity and annual satellite clinics offer more options for pet families

Williamson County Animal Center (WCAC) is providing free DAPPv vaccinations once a week for the remainder of the month. Families can bring their dogs to the shelter from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. each Thursday in April, beginning April 9, to receive the vaccination courtesy of Petco Love’s “Vaccinated & Loved” campaign.

According to WCAC’s Medical Director Erin Birdwell, there have been no positive tests among animals at the shelter, and their actions are out of an abundance of caution regarding unconfirmed reports in middle Tennessee. Anyone interested should pre-register their pet on WCAC’s website and go to the “Medical” lobby of the shelter. Dogs must be on a leash and cats in a carrier.

“Vaccinations are the most effective way to manage deadly diseases such as Distemper and Parvovirus,” said Birdwell. “DAPPv protects against these contagious and potentially life-threatening diseases as well as Adenovirus and Parainfluenza in a single injection.”

WCAC dog name Benji is up for adoption in Franklin, Tenn.

Three-year old Benji was surrendered to WCAC due to no fault of his own.  He’s been described as loyal, curious, and a quick learner and he is housetrained.  Benji has done well with other dogs at the shelter and we’ve been told that he’s good with older kids; we don’t know about cats.  Visit WCAC to meet Benji and all his furry friends who are available for adoption!

According to information found on Petco Love’s website, the campaign is responsible for distributing more than three million free vaccinations since it began in 2021.

In addition, WCAC has again teamed up with local veterinarians to provide rabies vaccination clinics at various locations throughout Williamson County. Pet parents will have seven sites to choose from beginning Saturday, April 18. With support from Friends of WCAC, rabies vaccinations will be available for $10 per animal and microchipping for $15. Payment must be cash or check, no cards.

“It is a priority for us to be a resource for pet owners; to do all that we can to help them have healthy and happy animals,” said Ondrea Johnson, WCAC Director, “So we are very excited to be able to offer these clinics again that make it easy for someone to get their pets vaccinated and chipped.”
