Free Smoke Alarms and Installation Available in Franklin, TN

Free Smoke Alarms and Installation Available in Franklin, TN

Fire safety starts with working smoke alarms, and Tennessee residents may qualify for free installation through Get Alarmed, TN!, a statewide program administered by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Launched in 2012, the grant-funded initiative provides fire safety education and 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms to participating fire departments across Tennessee. Those departments then install the alarms in at-risk homes, helping reduce fire-related injuries and deaths.

This is an installation program only. Alarms are not mailed or handed out. Instead, firefighters install them directly in homes to ensure proper placement and function. Requests are typically processed within six to eight weeks, and alarms are not guaranteed.

  • You own and live in the home where alarms are requested
  • Your home was built before 1990
  • Your home does not have adequate smoke alarm coverage
  • Your existing alarms are more than 10 years old
  • You are deaf or hard of hearing
  • You cannot afford to purchase alarms on your own

The department does not install hardwired alarms.

How to Request a Free Smoke Alarm

Residents can request an alarm through the Tennessee State Fire Marshal. As part of the request process, applicants will answer a few basic questions, including confirmation that they live in Tennessee, verification that the property is located in Tennessee, confirmation that they reside in the home where the alarm will be installed, and details about their current smoke alarm coverage.

For Franklin residents who qualify, this program offers a simple way to improve home safety at no cost. Working smoke alarms are one of the most effective tools for early fire detection and can make a critical difference in an emergency.
