FRANKLIN, Tenn. (July 1, 2025)—United Communications, Middle Tennessee’s largest locally based fiber internet provider, has upgraded its free broadband service at the Peytonsville Volunteer Fire Department in Williamson County to its cutting-edge 8 Gig fiber internet speed.

The upgrade provides the Peytonsville Volunteer Fire Department, located at 4950 Harpeth-Peytonsville Road in Thompson’s Station, with reliable download and upload speeds up to 40 times faster than the average residential broadband connection in Middle Tennessee—all powered by United’s state-of-the-art fiber optic network.

“The recent upgrade for Station 28 from 1 Gigabit to 8 Gigabit has yielded fantastic results,” said Lt. Fritz Haimberger of Williamson Fire-Rescue. “We now have four live-in firefighters in that station who are able to accomplish even more internet-based tasks at record speed while staying in the firehouse and not having to leave to access their work elsewhere due to lag or bandwidth issues. The speed, reliability, and customer service have been second to none, and these factors all add up to our firefighters’ ability to serve our neighbors.”

This milestone also marks seven years since United Communications formally partnered with Middle Tennessee Electric in 2018, a pivotal alliance launched during an event at the Peytonsville Volunteer Fire Department. That partnership laid the foundation for Project UNITE, which has since accelerated the expansion of high-speed fiber internet to underserved areas and enabled vital services like free broadband for fire stations across the region.

“Delivering the fastest internet in Middle Tennessee to the very place where United and Middle Tennessee Electric first announced a future of better connectivity for Middle Tennessee marks a true full-circle moment for our team,” said Josh Lynch, COO of United Communications. “It’s a powerful reflection of how far we’ve come—and how committed we remain to connecting every community across our region.”

“This upgrade is more than just faster internet—it’s a symbol of our commitment to the communities we serve,” said Chris Jones, President and CEO of Middle Tennessee Electric. “From day one, our partnership with United Communications has been about empowering people with the tools they need to thrive, and this milestone at Peytonsville shows just how far we’ve come together.”
