Wold Architects and Engineers Awards Davidson County Native with College Scholarship
BRENTWOOD – December 11, 2023 — Wold Architects and Engineers, a national leader in education, healthcare and government architecture with a local office in Brentwood, Tenn., today announced that University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK) student Dexter Gladney was named a recipient of the Wold Architects and Engineers Scholarship Fund.
Gladney, in his final year at UTK, is a standout student pursuing his bachelor’s degree in architecture. He currently serves as president of the university’s Omega Psi Phi fraternity. He has also been an active member of the Student Government Association (SGA) at UTK since his freshman year and served as a senator in the SGA for the College of Art and Architecture.
A Nashville, Tenn. native, Gladney graduated from Nashville Big Picture High School where he participated in internship opportunities and career preparedness to provide the best foundation for post-graduation. While in high school, he was president of the student government, a member of 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee, a non-profit organization providing resources to further the academic and social development of black male students in Nashville and surrounding Middle Tennessee, and part of the EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) program, designed to help African-American males reach their fullest potential educationally, socially and emotionally through the efforts of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
Wold Architects and Engineers is committed to fostering positive change in the communities it serves. In line with this mission, the company grants scholarships to students who are pursuing degrees in architecture, design and/or engineering. The scholarship fund, offering a generous $5,000 award, is specifically designed to support underrepresented students, promote diversity within the profession and cultivate the future generation of leaders through impactful educational experiences. Recipients are carefully chosen based on their academic achievements and demonstrated financial need.
“Wold is dedicated to giving back to the communities we serve, and that starts in the classrooms where the next generation of architects are learning,” said Stephen Griffin, principal at Wold. “We are proud to support Dexter’s education and look forward to seeing the impact he will make on architecture in Tennessee and beyond.”
“I am honored to receive this scholarship from Wold and am excited to put it toward purchasing supplies and digital programs necessary for my education,” said Dexter Gladney. “I’m extremely passionate about the architecture industry, and this support will help me grow within the field as I prepare to pursue my career after graduating.”
