Nashville Film Festival Announces “Foe” as Closing Night Selection
The 54th annual festival will end its powerful lineup with Amazon Studios’ psychological drama
Nashville, Tenn. (September 7, 2023) – The Nashville Film Festival (NashFilm), a week-long celebration of film, music and culture, today announced that the Closing Night film for the 54th annual festival will be “Foe,” an psychological drama based on best-selling author Iain Reid’s novel. The festival’s final screening will take place at the historic Belcourt Theatre on Wednesday, October 4th at 6 p.m.
Directed by Garth Davis, “Foe” is a haunting exploration of marriage and identity set in an uncertain dystopian world. The Amazon Studios film stars Academy Award® nominees Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal as Hen and Junior who’s quiet farm life is thrown into turmoil when an uninvited stranger shows up with the proposal of a lifetime for Junior.

“Foe” marks the second selection from Amazon Studios slated for the 54th festival following “Silver Dollar Road,” a searing documentary that tells the powerful story of the Reels family in North Carolina battling decades of harassment by land developers attempting to seize their property. Directed by Academy-Award Nominee Raoul Peck and based on the 2019 ProPublica article, the film highlights the covert ways the legal system has been exploited to keep Black land ownership fragile and the racial wealth gap growing. “Silver Dollar Road” will screen ahead of “Foe” on Wednesday, October 4th at 3:30 p.m. at the Belcourt Theatre.
