Someone who is exploring the idea of receiving chiropractic care for the first time may be surprised to learn that it’s more than just adjustments and treating pain – much more, indeed. Grassroots Health and Wellness is centered around a holistic approach to care and treatment for the whole family. When a patient receives a specific chiropractic adjustment, it involves removing interference to the nervous system so that the body may innately do what it is designed to do on its own. Most patients of Grassroots report that not only do they feel better as a whole, but they also experience fewer symptoms of allergies, digestive issues, anxiety, insomnia, and more.

Dr. Nicole Barton has been providing care at Grassroots Health and Wellness since she opened the practice in 2021. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Barton received her degree in nursing and worked in emergency medicine and pediatrics. There, she also received her degree in massage therapy and a Bachelor’s in Nutrition before moving to Orlando, Florida where she graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic’s Florida campus in 2016. She is also trained and certified in different specialties such as functional medicine which looks at a patient’s diet and lifestyle habits and makes modifications to solve an issue at the root of the problem. Additionally, Dr. Barton is currently becoming certified in the Mariwise fertility program which she says helps women achieve the ability to conceive.

Last October, two new chiropractic physicians joined the team – Dr. Korey Sheridan and Dr. Molly Stevens. Dr. Korey grew up in Kentucky and moved to South Carolina where she graduated from Sherman College of Chiropractic before moving to Tennessee. Dr. Molly is from Napa Valley, California and received her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and Pre Med studies from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Parker Chiropractic University in Dallas, Texas. All three physicians are Webster-certified – a specific technique that is used to improve pregnancy, labor, delivery and more. With tables made especially for pregnant women, doctors access the pelvis and sacrum to assure they are in alignment. According to Dr. Barton, the biggest goals for most moms-to-be that visit the office are to be more comfortable during their pregnancy and to have a quick labor. “We’ve done studies throughout multiple pregnant patients that report their labors – even first-time moms – are anywhere from eight hours or less,” said Dr. Barton.

Grassroots is hardly just for expectant mothers. They see patients ranging from infants to the elderly, from children to mothers and fathers. “We see everybody. A family that stays well together and conquers their immune system together typically can feel better overall in general,” said Dr. Barton. They typically see children for issues with allergies, sleep, bed-wetting or mood dysregulation, using fingertip pressure or a device called an activator – a very gentle, low-force adjustment tool that does not hurt at all. They also address symptoms of disorders such as autism and ADHD.

Dr. Barton and her staff offer a wide variety of techniques. They support cupping techniques for a sore neck or a pulled muscle, and lymphatic treatments which the team states can help with swelling and discomfort. They practice cranial sacral therapy as well for latching purposes in babies or to help calm the nervous system. They provide specific chiropractic adjustments for every type of body. Whether you want something a little gentler or a bit firmer, they can accommodate all needs.

One-on-one care tailored to each individual is what makes Grassroots unique. Most patients visit Grassroots Health and Wellness as part of a preventative wellness routine to maintain their health. Dr. Barton and her staff are happy to help you design your treatment. Don’t forget at your next visit to say hello to Stella the “Dog-tor” and Dooley, Dr. Barton’s French bulldogs and office mascots!
