Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury Opens Homeownership Applications April 17

Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury (HFHWM) will open their homeownership applications on April 17th, 2023.

HFHWM invites anyone who does not currently own a home and lives or works in Maury County to apply by completing a partnership questionnaire at www.hfhwm.org/homeownership.

Qualified applicants must meet three basic criteria:

First, candidates must show a need for improved housing—meaning one’s current living conditions are overcrowded, temporary, or unsafe. This includes lack of proper plumbing or wiring, structural issues, or the residence is in a state of disrepair. Other examples of need include paying rent higher than 30% of the household income or accessibility requirements for an individual with a disability.

Habitat homes are not free! All candidates must demonstrate the ability to pay an affordable mortgage and household expenses. Applicants must earn a consistent household income of at least $35,000 a year.

All income sources will be considered including; employment, social security, pension, disability income, worker’s compensation, alimony, and child support.

In addition to reliable income, individuals must have a minimum credit score of 550 to apply.

HFHWM is looking for applicants ready to change their lives through homeownership!  The year-long program builds strength, stability, and self-reliance. During that time, applicants are required to earn up to 280 hours of “sweat equity” by attending homebuyer education classes, one-on-one budget coaching, and working side-by-side with volunteers to build his or her home.

Once construction is complete, the partnering family will purchase the home with an affordable mortgage loan. He or she will be responsible for a $500 deposit within 30 days of acceptance into the program and a balance of $2,000 in closing costs at the completion of the home build.

Please visit hfhwm.org/homeownership to learn more about the program and complete the application.

HFHWM partners with local businesses, individual citizens, churches, and civic organizations to fund and build affordable housing in Williamson and Maury Counties.
