For Aerin Lauder, beauty is not only her heritage, but also her passion. A designer, tastemaker, style icon and heir to one of the world’s leading beauty moguls, Aerin has been guided by lessons set forth by her grandmother, Estée Lauder.
“I worked at Estée Lauder for about 25 years, gaining amazing experience in many different departments,” Aerin shares. “I was always doing interviews on what was in my makeup bag and the items I couldn’t live without. After being asked that question so many times, I felt that there was an opportunity in the marketplace for a lifestyle brand based on feminine, modern and effortless products with strong heritage and storytelling.”
Aerin reinterpreted her lifelong lessons in beauty when launching her own lifestyle brand, AERIN. The AERIN brand is based on the premise that living beautifully should be effortless, offering curated collections spanning beauty, fashion, accessories and home decor. Each collection is inspired by art, travel, fashion and design, with Aerin’s own lifestyle serving as its focal point.
“Estée used to say that everything can be beautiful if you take the time, which is very much the concept of my brand today. It is a beauty lifestyle brand, all about attention to detail,” Aerin says. “I am lucky to find inspiration wherever I go. Whether it is through my travels, my home, nature, my friends, family, art, hotels, exhibitions, the list goes on.”
The notion that everything can be beautiful through both attention and intention will guide Aerin’s lifestyle lecture at the 2023 Nashville Antiques and Garden Show, taking place February 3 through 5 at Nashville’s Music City Center. Beauty is a theme woven throughout the show, in addition to entertaining, gardening and design. Returning for its 33rd year, the show brings together a showcase of antiques from more than 150 dealers, world-class landscaped gardens and educational lectures, panel discussions and book signings. As a keynote speaker, Aerin will address, “The Beauty of Home and Entertaining.”
“I love this concept of {Estee’s} because it’s all about that idea of using a pretty glass or a beautiful plate every day,” Aerin shares. “You don’t need to save it for a special occasion. There is something so appealing about that because it makes every experience a bit more meaningful. There are so many simple ways to enhance the aesthetic of your every day, even at home, which can be accomplished with unique antique finds, luxurious pieces and of course, fresh flowers.”
Aerin believes that the modern woman sees beauty as an extension of herself, her home, her wardrobe and her travels, which is a key takeaway for the AERIN brand and a primary message for February’s show. Outside of the office, Aerin cites her most important role as being a mother to her two sons. “Along with the many lessons surrounding business, hard work, passion and drive, most importantly Estée instilled the value of family and spending time with loved ones. This concept is probably the most special of all and laid the foundation for having meaningful priorities and a work-life balance,” shares Aerin.
In all things work and family, Aerin draws upon her grandmother’s guidance of maintaining authenticity. “She would say that if you are passionate and true, success will come,” Aerin shares. “I have valued this idea since I was a young girl. Through the years, my goals have ultimately stayed the same – to be authentic to myself and do what I love.”
