ANIMAL CENTER ENCOURAGES PET FAMILIES TO PREPARE FOR COLD

Announces Holiday Business Hours
As middle Tennesseans prepare for frigid temperatures, Williamson County Animal Center (WCAC) wants pet parents to be ready to provide extra care for their furry family members. “If at all possible, when it’s going to be as cold as is being predicted, bring your outdoor animals inside,” said WCAC Director, Ondrea Johnson. “Even those that are used to being outside most of the time.”
For domestic animals that cannot be inside, such as outdoor cat colonies, The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) suggests that caretakers provide shelters that are able to keep them warm and dry, have plenty of food available at all times and ensure that water sources are not frozen. HSUS also warns people to be aware of other potential dangers that animals are more likely to encounter during periods of extreme cold such as chemicals used to melt ice and antifreeze for vehicles.
Johnson hopes that everyone will do what he or she can to help animals make it through the cold. “As people do what they need to make sure that they and their loved ones are taken care of,” she said, “we hope that they will also do the same for the animals in their lives.”
Along with Metro Animal Care and Control and Cheatham County Animal Control, WCAC is currently offering adoption specials and promoting fostering in hopes of clearing their shelters before they close to the public for the holidays. Through December 24, approved adopters can take home a cat or dog from WCAC for $25 per adoption.
The goal is to have any pet not adopted by Christmas Eve spend time with a foster family over the holidays and the center provides fosters with everything they need. Those interested in fostering should go to WCAC’s website to submit an application or call (615) 790-5590 for more details. Foster families can pick up their holiday guests from WCAC beginning December 22 and return them to the center on January 2.
Located at 1006 Grigsby Hayes Court in Franklin, WCAC’s holiday business hours are 10:00am until 6:00pm, Monday (12/19) thru Friday (12/23); 11:00am until 1:00pm on Saturday (12/24); closed Sunday (12/25) thru Sunday (1/1); and reopen at 10:00am Monday (1/2).
Intake will be open only for stray animals (no owner surrenders) from 10:00am until 6:00pm, Tuesday (12/27) thru Friday (12/30).
During times that the primary business phone line is not available, anyone who wishes to surrender a found animal, report a lost or stray, report a biting incident, report neglect or otherwise contact the Animal Control Officers should call (615) 790-5550.
