Join the Westhaven 5K Memory Run to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association®

Join us on for our 2nd Annual 5K Memory Run and Kids’ Fun Run to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome. This event accepts day-of race registrations. Same day registration is 6:30-7:30 a.m. The Race begins at Westhaven Residents’ Club on Saturday, April 9, 2022. The 5K starts at 8 a.m. The Kids Fun Run starts at 9 a.m.  Packet Pick Up will be on Friday, April 8 at the Westhaven Residents’ Club from 4-8 p.m.

Funds raised through participation in this event will support the Alzheimer’s Association’s annual DIY fundraising initiative called The Longest Day (TLD) (alz.org/TLD).  Participants in The Longest Day are encouraged to choose an activity or hobby they love to do, and turn it into an event to raise awareness and money for the Alzheimer’s Association. Activities for The Longest Day happen all year, but efforts culminate on June 20 — the Summer Solstice — which also takes place during Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month.

Additional information:

The Westhaven Residents’ Club has done several 5K events in the neighborhood over the past 15 years, one for Project Joy and several for cancer research. After a few years off from these events, they decided to re-launch a neighborhood 5K and were discussing the beneficiary, the unanimous decision was to help raise money to support the Alzheimer’s Association. Everyone on the committee and most people in our community know someone who has dealt with or is dealing with this horrible disease.

The goal is to make it a fun, family-friendly event that welcomes anyone and everyone to participate – both the competitive runner and the casual walker. We also encourage fundraising. The race is mostly put on by volunteers!

This year, we are doing memory signs at every mile marker, honoring our loved ones who have courageously battled Alzheimer’s.

The Longest Day is the day with the most light – the summer solstice. On June 21, thousands of participants from across the world come together to fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s through an activity of their choice. Together, they use their creativity and passion to raise funds and awareness for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.
