Legal Aid Society to Host Annual ‘Breakfast of Champions’ Event Virtually on April 7

Olympic gold medalist Scott Hamilton to speak at the event, which officially launches Campaign for Equal Justice fundraising campaign

NASHVILLE, Tenn., March 29, 2021 – Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, Tennessee’s largest nonprofit law firm, will hold its annual Breakfast of Champions as a free, virtual event on Wednesday, April 7, from 8 to 9 a.m. A preshow will begin at 7:30 a.m. featuring a slideshow of sponsor videos, messages and donor spotlights. Online registration for the event is now open for anyone who wishes to attend.

Olympic figure skating gold medalist and U.S. Hall of Famer Scott Hamilton will be the featured speaker at the event, which will be emceed by NewsChannel5 anchor Jennifer Kraus. Several former clients will also speak about their experiences with Legal Aid Society, which offers free legal assistance to low-income individuals throughout Middle Tennessee and the Cumberland Plateau.

Hamilton’s personal story of perseverance echoes Legal Aid Society’s own 50-year history of legal advocacy on behalf of its clients across Middle Tennessee. In addition to his Olympic background, Hamilton is a cancer survivor who later established the nonprofit Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation to support world-class cancer research and high-quality patient treatment and care. He’ll discuss the role that nonprofits like Legal Aid Society can play to improve the lives of those in their communities.

Waller, executive director of Legal Aid Society. “He’ll be a great advocate for Legal Aid Society’s core mission, as we work to help individuals and families across Middle Tennessee confront legal challenges and receive equal access to justice.”

Breakfast of Champions is Legal Aid Society’s signature fundraising, networking and mission awareness event, bringing together supporters and members of the Middle Tennessee legal community. It will officially kick off Legal Aid Society’s 2021 Campaign for Equal Justice, which has been held annually since 1987 to support the nonprofit law firm’s mission. This year’s campaign goal is $870,000.
