THE O’MORE COLLEGE FASHION SHOW

RETROSPECTIVE SERIES

For nearly two decades, the O’More College Fashion Show has been one of the premier events on Middle Tennessee’s fashion calendar.

Throughout the years the show has been staged at various venues around town and on May 10 it will make its first appearance at the Franklin Theatre in downtown Franklin, TN.

In the weeks leading up to that performance, O’More will look back at the events surrounding some of the more memorable shows and the student designers that made them so notable.

This Week: Jamie + The Jones

FRANKLIN, Tenn (April 2, 2018) The 2009 O’More Fashion Show was held at the James K. Polk Theater, making it the first time the show appeared at TPAC. It also marked the runway debut of O’More student designers Jamie Frazier and Hannah Jones.

Frazier and Jones collaborated on a collection that earned them the show’s Senior Award and they continue to work together at their Nashville-based design studio, Jamie + The Jones.

“The motivation for designing our collections is color,” says Jones, who is also an instructor in O’More’s Fashion Department. “From the outset, we color coordinated all aspects of the design process, down to our mood boards for our classes. To this day, it’s the best way we communicate with each other.

“Our runway looks were basically blocked out in ‘LEGO’ looks. That means that any time we were confused by a silhouette or a show lineup we would rearrange in blocks of color, as opposed to mixing and matching. It always worked to our benefit, visually.

One of their first goals upon graduating from O’More was to actually do something with all of their previous collections. It was a way to recoup some of their personal investment that went into making each garment.

“Some pieces were entirely hand-knit, beaded, and crocheted so we knew they were marketable,” says Jones. “We researched shops in Nashville that would carry our clothing and stumbled upon Local Honey. That placement launched our career, put us on the Nashville fashion scene map and enabled us to build-out our first studio space.”
