The Hangout Café Brings a New Community-Centered Café Experience to East Nashville
As Nashville’s hospitality scene continues to evolve, The Hangout Café is introducing a fresh kind of neighborhood gathering space to East Nashville. Officially opening on Friday, June 5th, The Hangout Café is an Indo-boho-inspired culinary destination designed to feel less like a traditional coffee shop and more like a welcoming backyard retreat where families, friends, dog owners, and neighbors can gather, connect, and feel at home.
Born from a vision to create a true community hub, The Hangout Café was intentionally designed as a place where people could slow down, share meaningful moments, and build lasting connections. As the concept evolved, it also became an opportunity to create something many parents often wish existed: a café where adults can relax with a quality cup of coffee while children play safely nearby. That shared vision ultimately became The Hangout Café.
“The Hangout Café began with my husband’s vision of creating a true neighborhood gathering place—somewhere welcoming, inclusive, and deeply rooted in community,” shared the Nashville-based Vas family. “As a mom, what resonated most with me was the opportunity to create a café where parents could enjoy a great cup of coffee while their children played safely nearby. Together, we shaped that vision into a space that blends Indian hospitality, thoughtful design, and meaningful connection.
“From our handcrafted chai made with spices sourced directly from India to our family-friendly backyard, dog-friendly outdoor spaces, live music, and community events, every detail was intentionally chosen to make people feel at home. Our hope is that The Hangout Café becomes a place where neighbors become friends, families create memories, and everyone feels like they belong.”
Rooted in Indian heritage and American café culture, The Hangout Café blends authentic flavors, thoughtful design, and community-centered programming into an experience built around connection. At the heart of the café is its signature house-made chai program, brewed from scratch using tea dust and spices sourced directly from India.
In addition to handcrafted chai, guests can enjoy specialty coffee, espresso beverages, seasonal lattes, matcha, cold brew, refreshers, and a curated selection of locally sourced pastries and food offerings. The menu reflects a commitment to quality ingredients, intentional preparation, and flavors that feel both comforting and distinctive.
The café features approximately 1,100 square feet of indoor space designed with an open, cozy atmosphere that seamlessly flows into a 7,000-square-foot backyard retreat. Serving as the heart of the café experience, the outdoor space offers ample seating, a custom children’s play area complete with a playground, chalkboard wall, and sand play zone, as well as dedicated fenced areas for both small and large dogs.
Throughout the year, the backyard will host live music performances, local artists, movie nights, family-friendly programming, and community events designed to bring people together.
Designed with warmth and texture in mind, The Hangout Café embraces an earthy Indo-boho aesthetic through handcrafted terracotta lighting, natural cedar wood tables, soft neutral tones, and locally inspired artwork. Two custom murals celebrate the blending of cultures and the importance of inclusion, reflecting the café’s commitment to creating a space where everyone feels welcome.
For guests on the go, The Hangout Café also offers a convenient drive-thru experience, making it easy for busy families, commuters, and neighborhood residents to enjoy their favorite coffee or chai without leaving their cars.
More than just a café, The Hangout Café was created as a place where community comes first.
