Swim Lessons

Williamson County Parks and Recreation provides swim lessons year-round through Excel Aquatics.

Class Descriptions for Excel Swim School – Group Lessons

Beginner I: Students entering this group have little or no experience in the water, and will be taught basic water adaptation skills such as putting face in the water, breath holding, and assisted floating.

Beginner II: For swimmers who have mastered floating and underwater swimming.  Students will be taught the basic techniques of freestyle and backstoke, including breathing.

Advanced I: Swimmers in this group will refine the techniques of freestyle and backstroke, and move into the basics of butterfly and breaststroke.

Note: Unless otherwise stated, the cost for each session (8 classes) is $80.00.

In addition to group lessons, the following will be offered at various times.

Private Lessons: These lessons are for children (ages 3 and up) or adults and may be scheduled with the Swim School Director pending availability. Cost per 30 minute private lesson is $30.00.

The following classes will be offered intermittently during the year depending on demand.

Excel Experts: This class is designed to help more advanced swimmers improve stroke technique in all four competitive strokes.  Participants must be able to swim 25 yards of  freestyle and backstroke. The class will be limited to 8 swimmers per lane. If two lanes are used the class will be limited to 16.   The class will meet two days a week each month for 45 minutes.

Parent & Tot: For ages 6 – 36 months. This program is a water adaptation class. It is not a “drown proofing” class. It is a wonderful class for helping to make your child comfortable in the water. It helps prepare children for the next step—swimming without Mom or Dad.  It is not our intention to teach these children to swim.  We use a gentle, loving approach to introduce swimming skills to our youngest students.  We work with the parent to introduce basic swimming skills such as breath control, submersion, kicking, reaching, back float, and safety.  Gentle submersions are introduced when the child is relaxed and ready.  We use a structured program of songs, games, and fun activities to teach you and your child. A parent must be in the water with the child.  This class will be offered one day a week or on a series of Saturday mornings. A session will consist of 4 classes for 45 minutes each.
