The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce April swim lessons and the “Spring Hill Sea Dragons” summer swim team at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Drive. No membership is required. We are a public organization, here to benefit the community. Anyone, including out-of-county residents, can register for and participate in our classes and events – even if you don’t have a facility pass! So what are you waiting for? Sign up today.
 
SWIM LESSONS OFFERED AT THE LONGVIEW RECREATION CENTER THROUGH THE EXCEL SWIM SCHOOL
The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department will host a series of group swim lessons in April at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Drive. Excel Swim School conducts all group classes. The cost for each 8-week session is $80.
 
CLASS LEVELS
Beginner I: Students entering this group have little or no experience in the water and will be taught basic water adaptation skills such as putting their face in the water, breath holding and assisted floating.
  
Beginner II: This class is designed for students who have some experience in the water and are capable of placing their face in the water. The goal is to master the prone float and back float unassisted.                                                  
 
Advanced I & II: For more advanced swimmers who have mastered floating and underwater swimming. Students will be taught the basic techniques of freestyle, backstroke and be introduced to butterfly and breaststroke.
 
In addition to group lessons, the following will be offered at various times:
 
Private Lessons: These lessons are for children ages 3 and up or adults, and may be scheduled with the Swim School Director pending availability. The cost is $30 per session.
 
Parent & Tot: For ages 6 months to 36 months. This is a water adaptation class, designed to help make children comfortable in the water. It is not a “drown proofing” class. Working with the parent, a gentle loving approach is used to introduce children to the water. A parent must be in the water with the child. The class will be held Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The cost for 4 sessions is $55.

SUMMER SWIM TEAM
The Aquatics Division at the Longview Recreation Center offers an exciting competitive summer swim team, the Spring Hill Sea Dragons! Participants need to know how to swim and will be required to participate in swim meets. This is not a swim lesson program. All swimmers must meet the following swimming levels to participate, and there needs to be a demonstrated potential to learn strokes. Ages 8 and under should have the ability to swim ¾ pool length in freestyle and backstroke; 9 and 10 year olds should be able to swim 1 entire length of the pool in freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke and ages11 and older should be able to swim 2 lengths of the pool in freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke.
 
A practice session and try-outs in the indoor pool will take place at the following times; ages 10 and under on Mondays, May 11th and 18th from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. and ages 11-18 on Wednesdays, May 13th and 20th from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. The “Spring Hill Sea Dragons” will have team practices in the outdoor pool Monday through Friday, May 26th – July 9th at the following times; Ages 11 and older 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m., ages 9 & 10 8:00 a.m. – 8:45 a.m., ages 7 & 8 8:45 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. and ages 6 & Under 9:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.
 
There will be an organizational meeting and registration period on Tuesday, April 19th at2:00 p.m. The team fee is $100 per swimmer, and the teamwill be limited to 150 swimmers, 25 per age group.For more information please contact the Aquatics Division at (615)302-0971 ext. 22.
