Seniors Take a Trip to the State Capitol

LONGVIEW SENIORS VISIT
THE STATE CAPITOL IN NASHVILLE

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department invites seniors, ages 55 and over, to tour The Tennessee State Capitol in downtown Nashville on Wednesday, March 18th. The Tennessee State Capitol was completed in 1859 and was one of the most magnificent public buildings of its time, anywhere in the U.S. The distinctive tower is designed after the monument Lysicrates in Athens, Greece. The architect, William Strickland, died in 1854 and is entombed above the cornerstone. During the Union occupation of Nashville (1862-65), the capitol was transformed into Fortress Andrew Johnson. The Capitol, still in use by state government, features numerous works of art; historical murals and frescos; portraits; massive chandeliers; the House and Senate Chambers and library and the Governor’s Office. This fascinating tour will take place while congress is in session! After the tour participants will enjoy lunch at Demos’ Steak and Spaghetti house.
Comfortable transportation will be provided from the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. Check-in will begin at 8:15 a.m. and the group is estimated to return at 2:00 p.m.

Registration for this trip opens at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17th and closes Friday, March 11th or when the trip is full. The cost is $22 per person, and lunch is Dutch treat.
