Pull-Tight Players Presents Once Upon a Mattress: Tickets on Sale May 25th
Pull-Tight Players, Franklin’s community theatre now in its 57th season, is delighted to present the classic musical Once Upon a Mattress. With music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barerthe, this retelling of “The Princess and the Pea” first debuted in 1959, famously launching the career of Carol Burnett. The musical quickly went on to become an audience favorite.
The story takes place in a faraway kingdom long ago. The Queen has decreed that only a princess who can pass her arbitrary test may marry her son. Further, no one else in the kingdom may marry until Prince Dauntless does. The unconventional Princess Winnifred the Woebegone instantly catches the attention of the Prince, but can she pass the test Filled with lovable and eccentric characters who hope to either help or hinder her, the play is a welcome throwback to an earlier era of musical comedy and a treat for the senses.
Director Bryan Kratoska says, “Once Upon a Mattress is a show that hides its heart behind its humor—beneath every laugh is a story about belonging, about being seen, and about the kind of love thatrefuses to give up. We have built something that I cannot wait for this community to experience.”
Kratoska’s team includes Abby Newman as Music Director and Meredith Kratoska as Choreographer. The show stars Chelsea Ranelle as Princess Winnifred the Woebegone, Elijah Bell as Prince Dauntless the Drab, Sydney Hooper-Moucka as Queen Aggravain, Barrett Thomas as Sir Harry, Ashley Mills as Lady Larken, Josh Hollandsworth as King Sextimus, Chad Stem as The Minstrel, Kevin Brenner as The Jester, John Scamardella as The Wizard, and Roma Lee Veal, Ryan Kelly, Levi Smith, Mike Oxford, Reagan Moorman, Elly Kate Smith, and Mya Ray.
