No-fee Adult Cat Adoptions; Two-for-One Kittens

To relieve overcrowding, the Williamson County Animal Center (WCAC) in Franklin is offering no-fee adult cat adoptions, and $10 adoptions for two kittens. A record number of cats and kittens have been surrendered at the shelter in June (over 315), causing overcrowding.

Debbie Sims, public information coordinator for the shelter, said the seasonal cat and kitten influx has the shelter bursting at the seams. “We have set up extra portable kennels in many areas, and even converted our storage area to cat housing,” she said. “What we need most is the community to respond by adopting.”

All adoptions require an approved application and include vaccinations, spay or neuter (or $50 returnable deposit), microchip and a pet goodie bag. There are 40 adult cats of all types, ages and breeds available for adoption.

The shelter also has about 35 kittens (with more coming in each day), and is offering $10 kitten adoptions with a free second kitten. Adopt a sweet kitten and get a built-in playmate included in the adoption!

Rabies/Microchip Clinic Saturday

The animal center will have its monthly public rabies and microchip clinic on Saturday, June 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the shelter, 106 Claude Yates Dr. The public is invited to bring their cats or dogs for $10 rabies shots and $15 microchips. The rabies fee includes a one-year shot and a collar tag. The optional microchip protects your pet from loss for a lifetime. Chips are registered to a database so pets can be reunited with owners when found. The clinic accepts cash and checks only; no credit or debit cards.

Williamson County Animal Center is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Intakes are accepted Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The shelter is located at 106 Claude Yates Dr., next to Franklin High School, and the phone number is (615) 790-5590.
