The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce a variety of special interest summer camps in June at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Drive.
JR. LEGO ENGINEERING 1
For 5 to 7 year olds that love LEGOS! Sign up your child now for Junior LEGO Engineering camp. Participants will learn all about gears, wheels, axles and levers in this class which integrates science and math. Class meets June 2nd-June 6th, Monday through Friday, from 9:00am-12:00pm. Camp fee is $125. Register before May 12th by calling (615)302-0971, ext. 10.
LEGO ENGINEERING 1
Every kid loves LEGOS! Using LEGO Education Division materials and LEGO Technic elements, this class is appropriate for children 8 to 12 years old. The course will cover gears, levers, wheels, axles, forces and simple machines. This is an integrated science and math class. LEGO Engineering 1 will meet Monday through Friday, June 2nd-June 6th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Camp fee is $125. Register before May 12th by calling (615)302-0971, ext. 10.
KINDERMUSIK – ZOO TRAIN
Your toddler and the train make a natural match because they are always on the move. Bring your own stuffed animals for the petting zoo. Wear long white socks on your hands for polar bear paws. Sing songs all about zoo animals! Designed for ages 18 months to 3 years, this class meets Monday through Friday, June 9th-June 13th, from 9:15am to 10:15am. Class fee is $85, plus an optional materials fee of $35 payable to the instructor. Call instructor Kelly Turner at (615)791-4084 to register.
KINDERMUSIK – IMAGINE THAT! ON THE ROAD
Relive your childhood with your toddler as you sing along with those childhood favorites. Play “eye spy” and find shapes in the clouds to pass the time. Take imaginary trips to vacation destinations on a bus named “Van Go.” This class is designed for ages 3 to 5 and meets Monday through Friday, June 9th-June 13th from 10:30am-11:30am. Each class features music time and craft time. Class fee is $85, plus an optional materials fee of $35 payable to the instructor. Call instructor Kelly Turner at (615)791-4084 to register.
IRISH DANCE MINI-CAMP
Children ages 4 –12 are invited to learn the basics of Irish dancing over this 5-day mini-camp, June 16th–20th, from 3:00pm-4:00pm. Learn the culture of Ireland through arts and crafts. In this style of dance, students will be introduced to basic elements of musicality, coordination, flexibility, and technique. It is a great way to exercise, learn sequences, and have fun. MAKE-IT TAKE-IT SCIENSATIONAL CAMP
How about making a science project that you can take home? Kids 6-11 years old are invited to join in this hands-on program that makes science exciting. Participants will make and take home an assortment of toys that teach scientific concepts in a hands-on way. Grow a crystal tree, make an energy bead bracelet, make a lava lamp, build a working motor, make your own silly putty and bubbling blobs! CAN YOU DIG IT? SCIENSATIONAL CAMP
Do you dig dinosaurs? If so, join the fun in this week-long camp for ages 6-11 and learn about paleontology and archaeology through simulated fossil excavations. Dig in the dirt for an actual dinosaur bone and a 250 million-year-old trilobite. Learn to identify 20 million-year-old shark teeth, mammal bones and more. View the Sciensational collection which includes a plaster cast of a real dinosaur egg and an extensive mineral and rock collection. THE ROCKET ROBOT SCIENSATIONAL CAMP
Build your own Hyper Peppy rocket robot in this week-long camp! Learn how to build a robot using gears, circuit boards, microphone and a mechanical drive system. Robots will respond to voice commands, reverse automatically and turn. Be a part of robotic technology and have fun investigating the future effects it will have on our lives. CSI-CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION SCIENSATIONAL CAMP
Super science sleuths will learn about forensics, crime scene investigations and crime lab chemistry in this one-week camp. Search for evidence, gather clues and perform experiments just like the pros. Participants will dust for fingerprints, analyze handwriting, examine fibers, do blood type analysis on simulated blood samples and practice chemistry to identify substances. Then, use these skills to solve the crimes of the century! Crime Scene camp meets Monday through Friday, June 23rd-June 27th from 12:30pm-3:30pm.
