NEW YOUTH THEATRE PROGRAM TO HOLD AUDITIONS FOR CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN
Straight to the Stars Youth Theatre is the newest addition to Williamson County Parks & Recreation’s family of award-winning youth theatre options. Straight to the Stars will produce a straight (non-musical) play starring high school actors (rising freshmen through graduating seniors). Open auditions for the production, “Cheaper by the Dozen” will be on Monday, July 1 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Williamson County Enrichment Center, 110 Everbright Ave., Franklin. This Christopher Sergel adaption of the book by Frank B Gilbreth Jr. and Earnestine Gilbreth Carey is based on the true story of the Gilbreth family. The Gilbreth’s inventor father, who was well-known for bringing better efficiency to factories, keeps his family of twelve children running just as efficiently, and the results of being part of the grand experiment are terribly embarrassing, funny and extremely effective!
Auditions will consist of cold reads from the script. No registration is required to audition. All experience levels are encouraged to audition. Once cast, a participation fee of $75 will cover the professional instruction, make-up, costumes, sets, full production, and a t-shirt. Rehearsals will be held Monday through Thursday from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. starting July 8 at the Williamson County Enrichment Center. Performance dates are August 9 and 10 at the Williamson County Performing Arts Center at Academy Park, 112 Everbright Ave., Franklin, TN.
Directing this first Straight to the Stars production will be Annie Rice, a Williamson County native. She was Fairview High School’s theater director for five years and helped open Summit High School as their theater director eight years ago. Over the years, she has appeared on stage around town at Towne Centre Theatre, Pull-Tight Theatre, and Old School Theatre as an actress and has directed well over 30 plays and musicals since her college days at Lipscomb University.
