ABRAKADOODLE’S “WINTER WONDER CAMP” COMES TO FRANKLIN

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation’s Franklin Complex welcomes a unique art experience for kids from Abrakadoodle director, Randy Maples!

Kids ages 6 to 12 are invited to “Abrakadoodle Winter Wonder Camp for Doodlers” held in two convenient sessions: Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays on December 27th through 29th or January 3rd through 5th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Young artists develop new skills, talents and confidence while designing unique creations using a variety of tools and materials.  Each lesson introduces new techniques and artistic styles from contemporary to master artists specializing in paint, sculpture, fabric, design and more.

Class projects vary per week:

Wednesday, December 27th
– Create your own snow globe and paint a winter scene of birch trees.

Thursday, December 28th – Explore the art of Gina Mikel by drawing a puffin in the northern hemisphere and sculpt a magical snowman.

Friday, December 29th – Create a starry night scene like artist Vincent van Gogh.  For our last adventure, campers will be introduced to painting with acrylics on canvas using winter colors.

January 3rd – Create a fireworks scene to welcome the New Year and complete a winter mosaic like artist Debbie Malone.

January 4th – Work on a renaissance piece like master Michelangelo and design your very own snowflake.

January 5th – Explore the arctic and draw a polar bear while discovering the art of artist Modigliani.  Then, paint a self portrait using acrylics on canvas.

Cost for each 3-day camp is $60.00 with a $30.00 supply fee.

Registration required for all classes by calling Randy Maples at (615) 848-4764 or by email at rmaples@abrakadoodle.com.  The Franklin Recreation Complex is located at 1120 Hillsboro Road in Franklin.

KINDERMUSIK A HIT WITH INFANTS, TODDLERS AND KIDS!

Instructors Kelly Turner and Melissa Knapp add an innovative program called “Kindermusik” to the Williamson County Parks and Recreation’s list of amazing classes for kids!  Originally named “Musikalische Fruherziehung” from its West Germany beginnings, Kindermusik now inspires infants, toddlers and kids in 35 countries around the world.  Through Kindermusik’s joyful activities, music and movement, participants are able to improve coordination and balance, nurture self esteem with one-on-one parent to child interaction and develop self discipline, listening and creative thinking skills.

Kindermusik is presented at the Franklin and Fairview Recreation Complexes through three different sessions for three age groups:

“Village” (newborns to 18 months) provides infants and toddlers with multi-level activities including creative movement, vocal play, object and instrument exploration and a colorful literature component.  All baby’s senses are engaged!

“Our Time” (18 months to 3 years) participants enjoy singing, moving, listening, interacting socially and playing simple instruments.  “Our Time” encourages children to uncover an engaging musical world while building self confidence, self-control and communications skills.  Creative movement to various musical “moods” help develop a sense of balance, timing and spatial awareness, while listening and turn-taking encourage blossoming social skills.

“Imagine That!” (ages 3 to 5) takes parent and child on a musical journey of imaginative discovery and exploration.  Pretend play activities are integrated with music, vocal development, storytelling, movement and literature to capture the child’s potential to learn, encourage cognitive and literacy skills, creativity and individuality.  Singing becomes a focus for enhancing the preschooler’s vocal development as the expressive language is just beginning to emerge.  Parents are invited to participate in the last 15 minutes for the sharing time at the end of class.
