New Art Classes in Spring Hill

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce new art classes starting in August at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Drive. STAINED GLASS KALEIDOSCOPES
Experienced stained glass crafters will learn how to construct kaleidoscope wheels and viewing tubes, insert mirrors and assemble a kaleidoscope. Students will need to provide their own glass for the viewing tube (1 sq. ft.). Glass for wheels, mirror and hardware will be provided in the supply fee. The 4-session course for adults will meet on Tuesday evenings, August 5th – 26th from 6:00pm-8:30pm.  The course fee is $60, plus a supply fee of $18. BEGINNING MOSAICS
Learn how to make a beautiful mosaic mirror in a 4-session course at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill. Students will learn the basics of mosaics, picking a base, adhesives, choosing and cutting glass and tile, plus design and grouting of the final project. Mosaics will meet on Thursdays, 9:00am-11:00am, August 7th – 28th. This class is for teens and adults, and the course fee is $60, plus a supply fee of $17. The instructor will be Joy Milke. CAPTURING SENIOR YEAR MEMORIES
High school seniors are invited to a scrapbooking workshop that will teach how to create a senior-year memories album to treasure forever. The workshop will provide tips on organization, how to take pictures and set goals for the senior year. The workshop will be held Saturday, August 16th from 3:30pm-5:30pm. The fee is $10, plus a supply fee of $5. Additional optional workshops will be offered during the upcoming school year to learn cropping techniques and work on the albums in a group setting. SUMMER FUN SCRAPBOOKING
Bring your summer photo memories and learn how to create a paper album of your favorite trip to the lake, camp or amusement park in this scrapbooking class. This is an easy and fun way to share photos. A paper album kit is provided, and includes the album, double-sided paper, photo maps, epoxy stickers, title stickers, die-cuts and adhesive. Participants should bring 15-20 photos to class. The workshop is for teens and adults, and will be held from 6:30pm-8:30pm on Tuesday, August 19th. The fee is $10, plus a supply fee of $16. CAKE DECORATING
Join Wilton-certified instructor Kolinda Duer and learn the basics of frosting preparation, the use of decorating bags and tips and frosting a cake to a smooth finish. Students will learn the art of making stars, writing, zigzags and shell borders as well as how to torte a cake. A required supply list will be provided to registered participants. The 2-session cake decorating class will meet Tuesday and Wednesday, August 26th and 27th from 10:00am-noon. The fee is $25.
