Public Invited to Meet Tennessee Artist Dane Howard on July 8 at Harlinsdale Farm
FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Friends of Franklin Parks invites the community to experience TN COWBOY, a new art exhibition by Tennessee artist Dane Howard, during a public opening reception on Wednesday, July 8, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the historic Hayes House at The Park at Harlinsdale Farm.
The free reception will give visitors the opportunity to meet Howard, explore the exhibition, and learn about the inspiration behind his latest collection while enjoying one of Franklin’s most treasured historic sites.
Presented in partnership with Friends of Franklin Parks, TN COWBOY explores the often- overlooked origins of cowboy culture in Tennessee through a collection of paintings inspired by the state’s landscapes, heritage, and equestrian traditions. The exhibition also features an immersive audio experience, inviting guests to engage more deeply with the stories behind each work.
Through art, history, and storytelling, TN COWBOY offers visitors a unique perspective on the cultural legacy of Harlinsdale Farm and the broader Tennessee landscape.
Howard’s work was inspired in part by time spent at Harlinsdale Farm, where he found inspiration in the movement of horses, the changing Tennessee skies, and the property’s rich agricultural history. Rather than recreating history, his paintings reflect themes of stewardship, resilience, freedom, and the enduring connection between people and the land.
The exhibition will remain on display inside the Hayes House through September 1, 2026, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to experience both the artwork and one of Franklin’s most significant historic landmarks.
TN COWBOY serves as a preview of Howard’s larger forthcoming collection, which will debut later this year during the reopening of the second-floor gallery at John Henry’s new downtown Franklin location at 110 3rd Avenue South.
