Fresh Looks

Remodeling your home or moving into a fixer upper?  Coming up with ideas to give your place a fresh look can be overwhelming.  Below are some helpful hints to help jump start your brainstorming:

Simply Swedish
– Having lived in Scandinavia, I was always impressed with how basic their wall colors and furniture choices were and how amazing they all came together to create a modern look.  Go all white.  I am serious.  Try some white walls, with a white couch or bed or chairs, maybe some dark oak furniture or bed frame, and let the only color pop be in your pillows.  It will look phenomenal, not boring and not plain but sophisticated, Swedish and chic!

80s mauve– Recently, Elle décor’s cover had a living room painted with a deep purple mauve.  It was beautiful!  They pulled in white wooden furniture, texture prints, marigold and gold.  It had the feel of the 80s with a touch of modernism.  A deep purple mauve is soothing for a living room or bedroom.

Tropical Topics–  Do you love the Summer time and sunsets- use those colors for inspiration.   Oranges and bright fuchsias are in this Spring… pull those colors together with some fun throw pillows or a vibrant wall.  Bold is always fun.  If you like pinks, almost anything goes with pink… browns, icy blues, grays, silvers, blacks and whites.

Retro Metro–  Want to have the metropolis feel in a retro setting?  Pull in some cherry red paint; use that trendy inflatable furniture, and ad a lava lamp to create the ultimate retro feel.  This is great for a teen or young college student’s room.

Golden Glory– Mustard gold is making a come back.  It may sound suspicious, but it looks amazing.  Try painting a room that mustard gold, pull in floral prints on a black background with some cranberry and gold throws and you will be living in glorious room of sophistication.

Pleasant Patterns– Florals, geometrics, stripes, dots, bamboo, forest, and leaves are all popular patterns for powder rooms.  They always look great in wall paper, just be careful with your towels and linens, be sure to keep them plain and one color.  Even the shower curtain should be a plain solid.
