Fire Relief Fund

The home of John Murphy, a life-long Hard Bargain resident on 9th Ave. North, caught fire early Sunday morning. Fortunately, a neighbor spotted the fire, banged on his door and notified John that his back room was on fire. We are thankful that John escaped unscathed and is healthy and in good spirits.
The company that insured John’s house for decades went out of business and John was left without homeowner’s insurance. For anyone who’s known Big John, as he is affectionately called, the fact that he was still friendly and full of smiles on the day he lost his house was not a surprise. John has given his life to love and serve his neighbors and the Franklin community.
Big John is a second generation stone mason, having done stone and brick work all around Williamson County. He was a Boy Scout leader in Hard Bargain for over 15 years, a Korean War veteran, masonry shop teacher at Franklin High and Page High, former Franklin police office and former deputy with the sheriff’s dept., minister in the Primitive Baptist Church, and for the past several years- a board member of Hard Bargain Mt. Hope Redevelopment and site superintendent of all the homes we have built.
John lost everything in this house fire and will not be reimbursed for anything. We have set up Big John’s Fire Relief Fund to help Big John rebuild his house and life. Any amount you can give would be a tremendous blessing.
