Historic downtown Franklin celebrates St. Patrick’s Day a few days early on Saturday, March 11, with Féile (pro: “FAY-LA”) Franklin! – A Celtic festival on historic Main Street! The streets will be closed for you to enjoy Irish whiskey and beer tasting that evening from 6 to 9 p.m.!

Féile Franklin! – A Celtic festival on historic Main Street! caps off a day of activity on March 11, which starts at 2 p.m. and includes Irish dance and music performances on Main Street, special Celtic vendors and craft exhibitionists and festival foods. Main Street will be closed for the two blocks between the Public Square and Five Points that day. No beer tasting will occur prior to 6 p.m., but the street will be filled with roasted potatoes, fried potatoes, turkey legs, fish and chips and all things Irish. Guinness Beer will be available for purchase at the Franklin Mercantile Deli until 6:00 p.m. After that, you can sample Guinness at that site with a tasting ticket.


Tickets for the beer and whiskey tasting event that evening will be available in participating merchants in historic downtown Franklin for $30 or $35 at the gate that evening. Don’t miss out on dozens of specialty beers and whiskey in 18 Main Street locations including The Cocoa Tree, Enjoué, The Franklin Mercantile, The Franklin Marketplace, The Garden Path, Gin-o Boutique, The Iron Gate, Mellow Mushroom, Merridee’s, Old South Spice Co., Puckett’s Gro. and Restaurant, Rebecca’s Furniture and Design, Rock Paper Scissors, Serendipity Skincare and Cosmetics, what’s-in-store and Yarrow Acres.


“We will be featuring a variety of beers imported from Ireland, including some that have not been available here until now,” said Darryl McCreary of McCreary’s Pub, one of the organizers of the event. “We are working with Guinness beers and DET Distributing to provide an authentic Irish experience.”


For those attending the beer tasting that evening, a special glass and a map of the tasting sites and description of the beers, which will be sampled in two-ounce quantities at each location. Whiskey will be available in four locations and will be sampled in the ½ ounce size.


Tickets are $30 per person in advance and are available at The Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County; Landmark Booksellers, Davis Kidd, and the participating merchants above. To order tickets by phone, call 615-591-8500. 


All proceeds will go to Downtown Franklin Association for promotion and continued revitalization of the historic district, which is on the National Register of Historic Places and designated by the National Trust as a Great American Main Street. Sponsors of the event are Historic Downtown Franklin, McCreary’s Pub Irish Pub and Eatery, and Guinness Beers.
