Construction on The Pearlene M. Bransford Complex is set to begin in March 2025. Known as “The Pearl,” Franklin’s newest park will bring expanded sports facilities, inclusive play areas, and scenic green space to the city’s southeast side. Designed as a gathering place for athletes, families, and outdoor enthusiasts, the park will offer a variety of recreational opportunities while also promoting education and environmental conservation.
Named in honor of Pearlene M. Bransford, a dedicated public servant and longtime Franklin alderman, the park reflects her commitment to community development, education, and historic preservation. Bransford played a pivotal role in advocating for affordable housing and protecting Franklin’s historically Black neighborhoods, including efforts to place the Natchez Street area on the National Register of Historic Places.
The first phase of development will include football and lacrosse fields, a paved perimeter trail, and Ellie G’s Dream World, an inclusive playground designed for children of all abilities. Future phases will introduce additional sports fields, sand volleyball, pickleball, and basketball courts, as well as an educational walking trail and a clean water facility. The park will also connect to the Robinson Lake Dam & Park project, which will provide a parking area, a lakeside trail, canoe drop-off zones, and a boat ramp for enhanced outdoor access.
Once complete, the park will provide a vibrant space for recreation, learning, and community connection, ensuring Bransford’s legacy continues to inspire future generations.
