BBB Offers Tips as Residents of Middle TN Continue to Support Maui Wildfire Relief

Over a month ago, wildfires in Maui claimed many lives and destroyed a historic part of the island. Residents and businesses are in the recovery process and still need assistance. BBB encourages donors who want to offer support to give but give wisely.

“After seeing images of the devastation, we all want to help the residents of Maui. Before donating, we encourage you to choose credible non-profits and food banks,” said Robyn Householder, President & CEO of Better Business Bureau serving Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. “First, visit Give.org to verify if a charity meets the BBB standards for Charitable Accountability.”

BBB also provides three additional tips to assist those interested in donating to Maui residents impacted by the wildfires. First, it is always good practice to support experienced organizations that stand ready to provide quick and effective assistance. Also, be cautious of organizations that form overnight, and do additional research before sending financial support. Finally, Donate money rather than goods because donating money is the quickest way to help and allows charities to channel resources to impacted areas.

The following organizations are BBB Accredited Charities currently raising funds to assist with Maui relief efforts: American Red Cross, GlobalGiving, World Vision, and Salvation Army. You can visit Give.org to find more BBB Accredited Charities.
