Announcing the VIRTUAL 37th ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CANDLELIGHT TOUR OF HOMES

Announcing the VIRTUAL 37th ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CANDLELIGHT TOUR OF HOMES

Presented by Oaklands Mansion

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For the past 36 years, Oaklands has presented the Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes as its largest fundraising event of the year. In order to, once again, share some of our favorite homes in downtown Murfreesboro with our friends and supporters, you are invited to usher in the holiday season with an enchanting virtual tour of historic Murfreesboro homes. The tour, sponsored by First Bank, will feature a selection of private homes and, as always, the historic Oaklands Mansion.

The historic buildings featured on the virtual tour this year include:

  • The Rutherford County Courthouse & Cupola
  • Dena Young- 443 East Main Street
  • Katie and Bert McCarter- The Darrow House, 450 East Main Street
  • Judith and Jim Smythe- The Collier-Crichlow House, 511 East Main Street
  • John C. Murphy- The Collier-Crichlow Carriage House, 518 East College Street
  • Mary and Jack Weatherford- 820 East Main Street
  • Sara and Gordon Bell- Big Holly, 718 North Maney Avenue
  • Oaklands Mansion- 900 North Maney Avenue

“Attending the Candlelight Tour of Homes is an annual tradition for the Murfreesboro community.  To make the event possible, private homeowners have volunteered to open their residences to the community for 36 years and counting. This year, due to COVID-19, the event has moved online.  It’s the best way to keep this annual tradition alive during an uncertain time. Instead of seeing the homes in person, we hope you will take the opportunity to watch the 37th annual Candlelight Tour of Homes online and make a donation to the museum.” said James Manning, Executive Director of Oaklands. “The virtual tour will be created by Carroll Multimedia of Murfreesboro.”

When you make a tax-deductible donation on the museum’s website, you will receive a link to this special holiday video that will take you down East Main Street to several of the city’s most elegant and historic homes. The virtual tour will then continue along North Maney Avenue to Big Holly and Oaklands Mansion. The Virtual 37th Annual Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes will be released the week of Christmas to our donors and supporters.  Income from the Candlelight Tour sustains the museum throughout the year.
