Jack’s Bar-B-Que Hosts 50th Anniversary Block Party
Barbecue pioneer Jack Cawthon has been serving Nashville’s favorite pulled pork since July 4, 1976
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 17, 2026) — Nashville barbecue pioneer Jack Cawthon will celebrate 50 years of serving barbecue in the Middle Tennessee community with a 50th Anniversary Block Party 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Jack’s Bar-B-Que’s 1601 Charlotte Ave. location.
The free public event will feature free pork sliders and smoked chicken wings, music from singer-songwriter Eli Perron, fellowship, photos and an opportunity to meet Cawthon as he celebrates five decades in the restaurant business.
“I’ve been blessed beyond measure,” said Cawthon. “What started as a dream and a lot of hard work became a lifetime of serving people, building friendships and helping make Nashville home. I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones as we celebrate this special day together.”
Cawthon founded Cawthon’s Caterer, Inc. on July 4, 1976, creating one of Nashville’s most recognizable barbecue brands, and opened the first Jack’s Bar-B-Que restaurant at Broadway and First Avenue in 1990. Through Jack’s Bar-B-Que, he has served millions of guests, catered countless events, and welcomed visitors from around the world. A longtime community leader, entrepreneur, mentor and advocate for Nashville’s growth, Cawthon has supported charitable causes, local commerce and Southern hospitality traditions throughout his career.
This celebration honors the employees, customers, friends and family members who have been part of the journey.
Positioned for the Future
As Jack’s Bar-B-Que celebrates its first 50 years, the company is well positioned for the future. Jack Cawthon’s son, Jay Cawthon, serves as President and will lead the next generation of growth and stewardship of the brand. Kyle Taylor Israel, a 20-year veteran of the company, serves as Vice President and oversees operations.
Jack Cawthon remains actively involved as Chairman Emeritus, providing guidance, mentorship, and support while ensuring the traditions, quality, and values that built Jack’s Bar-B-Que continue for generations to come.
