Gray’s on Main in Downtown Franklin, TN Changes Ownership

Gray’s on Main has changed ownership, marking a new chapter for the longtime downtown Franklin restaurant, bar, and live music venue.

The business was sold by Joni and Michael Cole, who opened Gray’s on Main in 2013, to local restaurateur Johnny Weber. Weber, who also operates The Country Boy in Leiper’s Fork and Zolo’s Italian Restaurant in downtown Franklin, plans to continue operating the restaurant without major changes, keeping the Gray’s name, signage, and overall concept in place.

Located in one of downtown Franklin’s most recognizable buildings, Gray’s on Main has a history that predates the restaurant itself. The space was once home to the original Gray’s pharmacy, and when the Coles reopened it in 2013 after an 18-month renovation, thousands gathered to celebrate its return. The three-story building still features original elements, including historic flooring.

Known for its Southern-focused menu, with dishes like fried catfish, pimento cheese balls, shrimp and grits, and cornbread, Gray’s on Main will continue its established mix of food, drinks, and live music, with some updates expected over time. The Coles remain active in the area and continue to operate O’Be Joyful in downtown Franklin.

With Weber maintaining the existing concept, the transition is expected to take place largely behind the scenes, allowing Gray’s on Main to remain a familiar presence on Main Street.
