More than 200 wines from around the world will be poured in 37 locations and more than 25 restaurants will provide food at this year’s Wine Down Main Street is shaping up to be the biggest and best event ever.

It will be bigger in the sense that the street will be closed from 1st Avenue to 5th Avenue that will include the Public Square.  Additionally, two premium-tasting rooms at Character Eyes Eyecare & Optical on Church Street and the law firm of Puryear, Newman & Morton on 4th Avenue South, will feature very exclusive wines for an additional $20 per person per room charge.

Hallmark Volkswagen, title sponsor of Wine Down Main Street, will utilize part of the Square to set up a multi-car display featuring many of their newest Volkswagen models.

The event takes place on Friday, November 7 from 7 to 10 p.m. in downtown Franklin.

Wine Down Main Street participants will receive a commemorative wine glass and booklet that will list the wines that are being poured in each location along with descriptions of the wines.  Of all the shops and businesses pouring wine, only three are first time participants: H.R.H. Dumplin’s and the two newly opened Curious Gourmet shops on Main Street, the cupcake shop and the kitchen shop will join in the fun.

The remaining pouring stations for this year are Bathos, Bijou, Bink’s Outfitters, The Cellar, Emmalines, Enjoue, Faye Snodgrass Gallery, Franklin Marketplace, Franklin Mercantile, Franklin Tea, Franklin Travel, Gin-o Boutique, GreenBank, Haven, Heart and Hands, Heirloom Shop, The Iron Gate, Ivey On Main, Jamison Station, Merridee’s Breadbasket, Puckett’s Grocery, Rare Prints Gallery, Re-Do Home and Rug, The Registry, Rock Paper Scissors, Serendipity, Shuff’s Music, Unruli Salon, Walton’s Antique Jewelry, What’s-In-Store, Xoconocho and Yarrow Acres.

More than 25 restaurants that supply food for Wine Down Main Street must work overtime on a Friday night to satisfy the diners in their respective establishments as well supplying 1,600 wine tasters with samplings of their menu items. Nine new restaurants join the list for Wine Down 8 and they include Cafy’s Roast House Café, Curious Gourmet Cupcakes, The Daily Dish, H.R.H. Dumplin’s, J. Christopher’s, Noshville, Otter’s Chicken Tenders, The Tin Roof and Wild Ginger.

Returning restaurants include Amerigo, The Cocoa Tree, Cooking Creations Catering, Cool Café, Franklin Mercantile, Friday’s, Macaroni Grill, McCreary’s Pub, Nacho’s Mexican Restaurant, Providence Farms, Puckett’s Grocery, Red Pony Restaurant, Saltgrass Steak House, Sol, Sperry’s, Sportsman’s Lodge and Unique Flavors Catering and Café.

The majority of the restaurants will be set up in two large tents on the Square in front of City Hall and the old Court House.  Downtown restaurants such as Puckett’s, Franklin Mercantile, Red Pony and Sol will provide food stations either in their business our outside adjacent to their business.

Since the inception of the event, Wine Down Main Street has grossed more than $550,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Franklin and Williamson County.   The Club has been able to purchase computers for the students, upgrade the playground equipment, buy a new bus to transport the children from school to the club, and most importantly aid in the annual operational budget of the Club. 

"The community helps to support the Club with every ticket they buy to Wine Down Main Street," says event producer Phyllis Hyland, "and the children certainly appreciate that support."

Tickets to the 8th annual Wine Down Main Street are now available at shops along Franklin’s Main Street, as well as at www.winedowmmainstreet.com. Tickets are $75 per person and available at The Cellar, Character Eyes Eyecare & Optical (on Church Street), Faye Snodgrass Gallery, Yarrow Acres and What’s In Store.  Tickets are also available at Hallmark Volkswagen in Cool Springs and at the Boys & Girls Club at 129 West Fowlkes Street in Franklin.  Premium-tasting room tickets are available now online or at each location the night of the event.
