PROGRAM OPTIONS AT FRANKLIN RECREATION FACILITIES

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department (WCPR) hosts piano lessons and an expansive offering of art programs for teens and adults at our Franklin recreation facilities.

Piano Lessons

Instructor, James Weinberg returns to the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd., with private, weekly lessons for students ages 4 and up. From beginner to intermediate levels, Mr. Weinberg provides instruction on note reading, music theory and artistic technique using a variety of styles. Lessons are available by appointment only on Friday afternoons and evenings. Cost is $30 per 30-minute lesson. Art Journaling and Mindfulness

Now, more than ever, we all can benefit from learning how to work out our thoughts and feelings. Instructor, Suzanne Beaumar will show you the way in this ongoing, weekly journaling class. Participants will use a variety of mediums and mindfulness techniques to help calm and relax a racing mind when living in uncertain and stressful times. Classes for teens and adults, ages 12 and up, meet on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Williamson County Enrichment Center, 110 Everbright Avenue, in Franklin. Cost is $15 per class, plus a $5 weekly supple fee and one-time $20 book fee.

Fun with Acrylic Painting – September

Children and adults, ages 10 and up, join professional artist and educator, Kris Salva as she guides all levels of artists through a fun, make-and-take acrylic painting on canvas project! No prior experience or supplies are necessary. Come alone or bring a friend or family member and join in the fun on Wednesday, September 30 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Cost is $25 for one participant; or $40; if registering as a pair 

Monthly Art Journaling and Mindfulness Class

This once a month class, offers those interested in the practice of Art Journaling, but perhaps cannot commit to weekly sessions, the opportunity to experience this unique art form. Each month the page spread focus will include varied techniques and mediums and creative opportunities for personalization and mindfulness through art. The next session will be held Saturday, October 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. The class is open to anyone ages 12 and up and costs only $15; plus a $5 weekly supply fee and one-time $20 book fee.Mixed Media Workshop: Intuitive Pumpkins

Carve out a stack of patterned pumpkins in this 4-hour mixed media on canvas workshop with instructor Suzanne Beaumar. Participants, ages 12 and up, will layer, stamp, and paint their way through this holiday decoration that sets the mood for harvest, Halloween, and through Thanksgiving. Class meets Saturday, October 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Cost is only $35 per person; plus a $25 supply fee.

Botanical Watercolor Workshop – Rose

Teens and adults ages 13 and up, join local artist, Hannah Maxwell Rowell for this one-day workshop as she introduces all levels of students to botanical drawing and painting techniques in watercolor and mixed media to create a lovely work of art each month to proudly display. This program will be offered at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road, on Sunday, October 11 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $40 per participant; plus a $15 supply fee, or individuals may bring their own supplies from a list provided.

Bob Ross Certified Oil Painting Class – Mountain Landscape

Experience the “Joy of Painting” with Bob Ross Certified Instructor, Quintin Burlingame as he leads students, ages 13 and up, through the wet-on-wet method of oil painting made famous by this legendary artist. Whether new to painting or an expert, all will enjoy learning the techniques in this 3-hour class which will culminate in a beautiful 12×16 painting. The class will be held on Saturday, October 17 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Cost is $60 per person and includes all materials.
