Nashville, Tenn. – June 15, 2022 — On Friday, June 24, FiftyForward Bordeaux will host its 13th annual fundraiser, Hats Off to Bordeaux!, which celebrates and benefits older adults in Nashville’s Bordeaux community. This lively fundraiser features a much-anticipated hat fashion show and a short program to showcase the work FiftyForward Bordeaux does to help older adults live longer, more fulfilling lives.

“We are once again preparing to bring the enthusiasm and energy of Hats Off to Bordeaux! to our beloved Bordeaux community via Zoom,” says FiftyForward CEO Sallie Hussey. “It’s such a treat to see the smiling faces and festive hat parade that we associate with this event, whether we are together in-person or online.”

  • Annually this center serves more than 120 individuals through member services, food distribution, and other programs.
  • Through its weekly food distribution program, it has provided 1,835 meals to those living in the Bordeaux community in this fiscal year.
  • The center offers membership scholarships so anyone can participate in its educational programs regardless of finances.

History of Hats Off to Bordeaux!

For more than a decade, Hats Off to Bordeaux! has been a highly anticipated special event celebrating the vital connections in the Bordeaux community. State Sen. Brenda Gilmore, a member of the FiftyForward Bordeaux member advisory council, was one of the early founders of Hats Off to Bordeaux! Over the years she and countless other community leaders and Bordeaux residents have donned their best hats and walked the runway. Once COVID-19 struck, the event evolved into a digital fashion show, where guests can celebrate their love for fashion and support older adults in the Bordeaux community from the comfort of home.

About FiftyForward Bordeaux
Nestled in a historic area of Northwest Nashville, FiftyForward Bordeaux opened in May 2007, in what was previously the Bordeaux Library. This center offers many opportunities for engagement through programs, activities, and services for more than 2,000 older adults annually. FiftyForward Bordeaux serves a diverse community of older adults and offers opportunities for activities for fun, fitness, and fellowship in the community.

The leadership of FiftyForward Bordeaux seeks to ensure that members of this community are engaged in ways that strengthen them physically, socially, and spiritually, and improve members’ lives through various programs. These programs include classes in nutrition, dance, fitness, music, drumming, exercise, art projects, day trips around the community, and the planting of an annual community garden. FiftyForward Bordeaux is also one of the two centers that offer Metro Services congregate meals that deliver nutritionally sound meals to eligible older adults.

FiftyForward is thankful for the 2022 Hats Off to Bordeaux! sponsors who made this year’s event possible: Vulcan Materials Company, Advance Financial Foundation, Dollar General, Vanderbilt University, Green Hills Rotary Club, Piedmont Natural Gas, Shellis Management Services, AT&T, Citizens Bank, and CGS Administrators.
